About the Society...
The Society meets on the fourth Wednesday
of
each month at the Pinecrest Gardens.
The meetings usually begin
at 7.30 PM and the details of the programs for each
meeting are listed in the Calendar
of Events. Board Meeting will begin
about 6:45 and everyone
is welcome.
The evening begins with a brief discussion of club business and any
announcements.
Next is the program which may vary. We have found that most members enjoy what
we call a BYOT (Bring Your Own Tree) workshop. You bring a tree or trees to work
on and
our more advanced members will help work with you and answer your
questions.
Other programs might include a guest speaker.
The speaker may do a lecture, a demonstration, a slide presentation, a workshop
or may
combine any or all for his program. The program topics are chosen by the club's
board
and we get a speaker to
talk on that subject. After our guest speaker finishes,
we break
for refreshments, socialize, to purchase raffle tickets and discuss the trees
brought in.
The member's trees are for show and tell or a display and
critique. We ask our guest speaker or one of
our members to discuss the trees brought in. After the break we hold
our raffle
and conclude the meeting.
At all General meeting, Guests are always welcome - Free!
Each year we invite a few Bonsai Masters to visit the Society and give a
presentation or
to hold
a workshop. Details of these visits will be found in the Calendar
of Events page,
and picture from previous visits can be seen on the Visits
by Bonsai Masters page.
During October the Society holds its Annual
Show and Sale, where we create an Exhibit
of our best trees, provide presentations and workshops, create an Educational
Display,
hold numerous raffles and invite Bonsai Vendors to attend so that visitors and
members
can view a wide selection of Bonsai-related goods for sale. More information and
pictures
from previous shows are available on our Annual Show page.
During December, our regular meeting is transformed into the Annual Auction.
This is
our fundraiser for the year. Members
bring in trees, pots, tools and many other bonsai
related items.
